Set in New Jersey in 1994, the play is about Nick, a young, single Italian-American who announces to both sets of grandparents that he has been offered a dream job in Seattle. Devastated by the news, his doting, salt-of-the-earth grandparents, with whom he has dinner every Sunday, cook up a plot to keep him from leaving the nest.

This play by Joseph Kesselring is a clever combination of the farcical and the macabre and centers on two elderly sisters who are famous in their Brooklyn neighborhood for their numerous acts of charity. Unfortunately, however, their charity includes poisoning lonely old men who come to their home looking for lodging. The two women are assisted in their crimes by their nephew who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and who frequently blasts a bugle and yells ‘‘charge’’ as he bounds up the stairs. Matters get complicated when a second nephew, a theater critic, discovers the murders and a third nephew appears after having just escaped from a mental institution. In his adroit mixture of comedy and mayhem, Kesselring satirizes the charitable impulse as he pokes fun at the conventions of the theater.

Burnt-out social worker Karol Elliot is having a crisis of Christmas spirit. When heading home on a lonely Christmas Eve, she shares her groceries with a homeless man who decides to show his thanks and rekindle her holiday cheer…by breaking into her apartment later that night insisting that he’s Santa Claus. Before long, Karol begins to wonder; is this bearded stranger more than what he seems? Based on the Guthrie Theater recent hit, this comedy by Nikolai Gogol hinges on a case of mistaken identity. A lowly impoverished young civil servant is mistaken by the members of a small town for a high-ranking government inspector. The town's governor and the leading government officials fear the consequences of a visit, should the inspector observe the extent of their corruption. The impostor makes the most of the misconception, weaving elaborate tales of his life as a high-ranking government official and accepting generous bribes from the town officials. After insincerely proposing to the governor's daughter, he flees before his true identity is discovered. The townspeople do not discover their mistake until after he is long gone and moments before the announcement of the arrival of the real government inspector.
